Geneva Study Group Meeting - 20-22 July 2005
Hosted by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Geneva

UNDP and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) convened a global study group meeting on Strengthening the Role of Parliaments in Conflict and Post-conflict Situations on 20-22 July 2005.

The study group meeting was a major component of a year-long research process on this topic, which includes 27 case studies, five regional papers, and a series of regional roundtable meetings.  The July 2005 meeting brought together representatives from this global research process, in addition to parliamentarians, practitioners and experts.  Researchers presented their findings, subsequent to which participants engaged in working group and plenary discussions to produce core findings, best practices and recommendations for enhancing parliaments' role in conflict and post-conflict situations.

The following documents pertaining to the Study Group Meeting are now available:

The findings of this study group meeting will feed into the UNDP Global Conference on Strengthening Parliaments in Conflict and Post-Conflict Situations, to be held in partnership with the Government of Belgium in Brussels in early 2006.  The purpose of this conference is to discuss the role of parliaments in conflict and post-conflict situations and to put forward key findings and recommendations on how that role may be better supported by the international community.
